When to Get a Replacement

Not sure whether your engine or gearbox needs replacing? Here are a few warning signs to look out for:

  • Engine: Excess exhaust smoke, knocking noises and oil leaks are signs your car may need an engine replacement. It’s also vital to get your vehicle checked out ASAP if smoke is coming from underneath your bonnet.
  • Gearbox: If your transmission has been slipping gears, is leaking fluids or making grinding noises, it’s best to get your gearbox checked out as soon as possible as it may need replacing. It’s also a good idea to get in touch with us if it’s emitting burning smells or if your transmission’s warning lights are on.

Question Icon
  • What’s involved in an engine or gearbox fitting?

Fitting a new or used engine or gearbox involves removing the old unit, inspecting mounts and connections, aligning components and installing the replacement. It also includes fluids, testing and tuning to ensure proper function.

  • How long does an engine or gearbox fitting usually take?

Depending on the make, model and any complications, the process can take anywhere from a day to several days. Some jobs are more complex due to wiring, electronics or drivetrain design.

  • Can I fit an engine or gearbox from a different model?

In some cases, yes, but compatibility is key. Swapping parts between models or generations might require modifications, additional parts or engineering certification under Australian vehicle laws.
